Is Olive Oil Good for You? The Answer Is Yes.

This Study Shows It Can Even Help Prevent Death

WHY YOU SHOULD MAKE EVOO (Extra Virgin Olive Oil) YOUR OIL OF CHOICE

Olive oil is the healthiest oil for low to moderately high-heat cooking.

EVOO reduces the risk of death from many causes. That was the tasty conclusion of a new evaluation that sought to compare olive oil consumption over time with the risk of death from our most common chronic diseases.

For this study, scientists followed the diets and health status of 92,000 healthy adults for a period of 28 years.

The results? Relative to study subjects who rarely or never consumed olive oil, those consuming the highest amounts, about ¾ of a tablespoon a day were:

  • 19% less likely to die of cardiovascular disease
  • 17% less likely to die of cancer
  • 29% less likely to die of dementia
  • 18% less likely to die of respiratory disease

These results are not surprising. EVOO is comprised of heart-healthy and brain-healthy monounsaturated fats—most notably oleic acid. Oleic acid has recently been shown to activate the all-powerful sirtuin longevity circuits—the true fountain of youth.

What’s more, olive oil–specifically extra virgin olive oil–is teeming with exceedingly potent antioxidant polyphenols, additional compounds known to ignite the anti-aging sirtuins, amongst other healthy attributes.

Extra virgin olive oil is truly a food to revere. Make it your oil of choice!
