A Family of Veggies You Don’t Want to Miss

The disease-busting credibility of the famed cruciferous family of veggies just received yet another accolade. Past studies have shown that people who consume more cruciferous veggies are less likely to develop heart attacks and strokes, and for this new study the scientists decided to dig a bit deeper. Specifically, they compared reported levels of cruciferous veggie intake in a group of 684 elderly women to the amount of calcified plaque in the lining of their aorta, the body’s largest artery. Calcium deposits within arteries are a tell-tale marker for cardiovascular disease.
The results? Women in the highest quartile of cruciferous veggie intake were 46 percent less likely to have significant calcium build-up vs. those consuming the least. What’s more, consuming as little as 45 grams a day – the equivalent of ¼ cup of broccoli or ½ cup of raw cabbage landed women in the top quartile! Doing that is a cinch.
The cruciferous veggies included in this evaluation included broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower and Brussel Sprouts. This remarkable bunch has been repeatedly shown to offer broad spectrum, uniquely potent disease protection. Make it a habit to consume at least one serving of cruciferous veggies each day. The health return for this easy undertaking is too huge to miss out on! To learn more about what underlies the stellar, life-giving properties of crucifers watch this short video.
